About business, about creativity, about people, and about ourselves and while we've been having a little fun looking back at everything we've built, we've also been thinking about what's next.
Trust us, eight years in, we've still got some things up our sleeves.
We've been having some pretty fun conversations around the studio lately about what we want to bring into this next era of ENC and, not that you're surprised, but the we have some thoughts.
We're talking about getting a little more curious about the humans behind the brands. Making more room for spontaneity, unexpected ideas, and the kind of creative magic you can't exactly schedule into Basecamp (though we do love Basecamp). And finding the courage to make things that stand out in a world that seems increasingly obsessed with fitting in.
More depth. More guts. More creative rabbit holes. More of the stuff that makes us remember why we fell in love with doing this in the first place.
Now for the fun part, every ENC lady is bringing her own little obsession, curiosity, or creative itch into the mix. Some are big ideas. Some are tiny shifts. All of them are shaping what comes next.
I keep finding myself wanting to go one layer deeper. Past what we’re making and straight into the brain of the person brave/crazy/obsessed enough to be making it in the first place.
Eight years into doing this, I’m less interested in making things just to make things. I want to understand the human first. What makes them tick. What they see that no one else sees yet. Because that’s usually where the really good stuff is hiding.
I’ve quietly started spending a little more time one-on-one with the founders behind it all, too. And let’s just say, I’m calling in a whole lot more of that.
What really bums me out is how “the same” the world has gotten. Everyone is so polished, so careful, so afraid to get it wrong that we stopped being brave enough to stand out. I want the next era of ENC to push against that and push hard. I think the world needs more people brave enough to make something only they could have made. And I want ENC right there beside them, helping build the damn thing.
We had some sweet, quality team time recently, and I came away really wanting to embrace a little more spontaneity. In my heart, I love a plan and executing it well. While I think that has served ENC so well (we are organized over heeeeere), I’m hoping that this next year, our intentional planning can create more room for spontaneity, excitement, and just cool opportunities to create.
I want to bring all the human handmade energy into the next season! It makes up a lot of ENC's secret sauce. Our brains dreaming and scheming, our hands making those dreams come to life, and all the collaboration in between. While some of the world is jumping into everything artificial, I want to still continue to use the one thing that makes us all uniquely us.
For this next era of ENC I want to slow down and create even more intentionally. In our current world where everything is thrown at you every second of everyday, I want our creations to make people stop amongst the chaos of everyday life. Quality over quantity people!! Let's take a moment, think about how we can make something truly out of the box (and not what you've seen 5 other brands do) and make it happen (using our hands + brains!).
I'm bringing forward FUN ! I am so grateful to be a part of a team where play is encouraged, curiosity is fostered, and all around F U N is had. It is far too easy to let things become mundane .. so I'm reminding myself to lean into the joy of what means to create things in this world :)
